History

History of All Saints Elton Theatre Company

All Saints Elton Theatre Company was established in 1912, beginning more than a century of theatre in the heart of Elton, Bury.

Our first production was Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, performed in 1913 under the name All Saints (Elton) A.O.S. It marked the beginning of a theatrical tradition that has continued through generations of performers, directors, musicians, technicians and volunteers.

From those early operettas, the company continued to grow and develop. Over the decades, our productions have included Gilbert and Sullivan favourites, classic musicals, modern musicals, plays, comedies, concerts and family productions. Shows such as The Pirates of Penzance, My Fair Lady, South Pacific, Oliver!, The King and I, Jesus Christ Superstar and West Side Story are just some of the many productions that have formed part of our history.

Celebrating 100 Years

In 2012, All Saints Elton Theatre Company celebrated its centenary. By then, generations of local people had taken part in more than 100 productions, helping to make the company an established part of the performing arts community in Bury.

Our centenary year was not the end of the story. The company continued to stage a wide range of productions, combining well-known musicals with plays, comedies and new opportunities for performers both on stage and behind the scenes.

A New Generation

In 2022, another important chapter began with the launch of a dedicated Youth Theatre. It started with a summer theatre workshop in August, followed by regular weekly sessions from September. The Youth Theatre made its first official performance as part of A Christmas Cringle in December 2022.

Since then, our younger members have continued to take part in productions, workshops and performances, developing skills in acting, singing, dancing and the many creative and technical roles that make theatre possible.

Our Story Continues

More than a century after our first production, All Saints Elton Theatre Company continues to bring people together through theatre. Our history has been created not only by the shows we have staged, but by the many members, volunteers, audiences and supporters who have been part of the company along the way.

We are proud of where we have come from, but our story is still being written. With new productions, new members and new generations getting involved, we look forward to continuing the tradition that began in Elton in 1912.
